The state of Leonida has been described in pieces across two trailers, a long form video, a Game Informer cover story and a run of official screenshots. The result is that the GTA 6 map has a lot of named places scattered across a lot of sources, and no single official index.
This is that index. Everything in the first section has been named by Rockstar or in official coverage. Everything in the second section has not, however often you have seen it asserted.
Named by Rockstar or official coverage
Vice City and its districts
The city itself is the anchor, a Miami analogue returning for the first time since 2002. Named areas within or adjacent to it include:
- Ocean Beach, the Art Deco strip and the most immediately recognisable stretch of the city. Covered in our Ocean Beach guide.
- Little Cuba, the Cuban American district, and Little Haiti, both carrying forward names with real world Miami counterparts.
- Wynwood, the arts district, warehouse walls and galleries.
- Downtown Vice City, the financial and high rise core.
- Vice Beach, the beachfront proper.
Towns, regions and counties outside the city
- Leonida Keys, the island chain running south, our Keys guide covers it.
- Port Gellhorn, a working panhandle style port town, visibly rougher than Vice City.
- Grassrivers, the wetland interior and the map's Everglades analogue.
- Ambrosia, a smaller inland settlement.
- Mount Kalaga, the national park and the map's high ground.
- Vice-Dale County, the county surrounding the city.
- Belville, a suburb.
- Thrillbilly Mud Club, a specific named location rather than a district, and a good example of how granular the naming has got.
Named infrastructure and landmarks
- Fort Baxter, the military installation, a name carried over from Vice City.
- The Vercetti Estate, which appeared in official material and set off a predictable amount of speculation. Our Vercetti Estate piece handles what is and is not implied.
Not named, however often you have read otherwise
This is the half of the article that matters more.
| Commonly asserted | Status |
|---|---|
| Liberty City appearing in any form | Never mentioned by Rockstar |
| A second major city on the map | Never mentioned |
| Specific Vice City street names from 2002 | Not confirmed to return |
| Any neighbourhood from the 2022 leak build | Prototype material, not shipping content |
| Named casinos, malls or stadiums | None confirmed by name |
| Orlando or theme park analogue towns | Not named |
The 2022 leak point deserves emphasis. That build was years old, and place names inside it reflect a 2015 era map prototype rather than the shipped game. We covered the distinction in our 2015 map prototype article.
The second city question comes up constantly because the map is confirmed to be roughly twice the size of GTA V's. Size is not the same as a second city, and Rockstar has described a state with one dominant city and a populated interior. Our other cities explainer goes through why.
How to read the list
Three things are worth noticing about the shape of it.
The naming is weighted outside the city. Port Gellhorn, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga and the Keys are all distinct named regions. That is a deliberate signal: the interior is not filler between city and coast.
Districts are being named at real world granularity. Wynwood and Little Haiti are not generic invented names, they are the actual Miami neighbourhoods with the actual names. That is a departure from the series' usual habit of lightly renaming everything, and it suggests the city is going for recognition over parody in its geography even while the satire runs hard elsewhere.
Nothing has been named with a mission attached. Every location above is a place, not a plot point. Rockstar has been notably careful to reveal geography without revealing structure.
Frequently Asked Questions
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Officially described as roughly twice the size of GTA V's. Claims of three times RDR2 circulate but are not official. See our map size article.
Is Liberty City in GTA 6?
No. It has never been mentioned by Rockstar in any capacity. Treat every version of this claim as unfounded.
Will the whole map be available from the start?
Not confirmed. Rockstar has not described map gating or progression locks either way.
Are there more locations not on this list?
Almost certainly. The list covers what has been named publicly. A map this size will contain many settlements and districts that have not been shown.
The Bottom Line
Count the named places and you get a state, not a city with suburbs: a Miami analogue with half a dozen identified districts, plus a port town, a wetland region, a national park, an island chain and a county around all of it. What is striking is how much of the naming points away from Vice City. Just be careful with the second half of this list, because the gap between what Rockstar has named and what the internet has filled in is where almost every bad GTA 6 map claim comes from.
